Barbara McDonald
Barbara is a former trial attorney who has turned her artistic vision to creating a new genre of steel wall sculpture. Working primarily with a plasma cutting torch, Barbara is known for “painting with a plasma cutter.” Her wall sculptures demonstrate the potential for creating cutting edge art out of a material that is usually associated with industrial uses.
Although she grew up in the home of a classically trained artist, her father, Barbara did not find her personal artistic obsession until, near retirement from practicing law, when she took classes in metal fabrication. Her delight in carving steel generated her current body of work, which makes for a happy marriage between sculpture and painting.
Barbara has exhibited in a number of art venues around Southern California, including the Cove Gallery in Laguna Beach, Art-A-Fair in Laguna Beach, and the Carlsbad Art Gallery, among others. Her pieces reside in private collections locally and abroad.
